The End of the Bank Holiday?

HSBC to open 90 branches on Tuesday 28th December

24th December 2004

HSBC have maybe signalled the end of the Bank Holiday tradition, by opening a small number of its branches on Tuesday 28th December.

The bank will open around 90 of it's 1500 branches, mainly in busy shopping centres, where customers will be able to take out cut-price loans and mortgages in what the company describes as a 'January Sale'. A normal counter service will not, however be available.

The branches will be staffed by volunteer workers on double pay, with the agreement of unions.
