Abbey plans 100 new UK bank branches

Alfredo Sáenz, the chief executive of Abbey's owner Banco Santander, has revealed that the company plans a massive expansion over the next decade, with up to 100 new branches planned.
The bank will be opening branches in parts of the UK where there is currently no Abbey presence, according to reports.
Sr Sáenz is also reported as rejecting rumours that Banco Santander have their eye on another UK bank, speculated to be Alliance and Leicester or Bradford and Bingley, saying that they have no plans for UK acquisitions at this point.
